Aims of the Group

  • Meet others on the island that use R
  • Build a community of shared interest
  • Find out about new tools, new packages, new perspectives
  • Develop together

Format

  • Regular Sessions
    • Lunchtime/evening/varied - to suit members’ schedules
  • Variety of session formats and speakers
  • Online/async presence
    • Website
    • Slack or similar?

  • Presentations: Single session or ‘lightning talks’
    • “Here’s something I’ve made”
    • “This package does something useful”
    • “Here’s how to…”
  • Group coding sessions
  • Watching conference videos

  • Tidy Tuesday
    • Either as a presentation or as a way of sharing work
  • Book Clubs
    • R for Data Science, Advanced R, Tidy Modelling, Text Mining with R etc
  • Advent of Code

How much will it cost?

R Consortium RUGS program

The RUGS mission is to facilitate the person-to-person exchange of OR knowledge in small group settings on a global scale … RUGS grants are intended to help people form enduring R user group communities.

  • Grants of up to $500
  • meetup.com fees paid for
  • Dependent on there being sufficient funding available
  • Dependent on meeting requirements.

R Consortium Requirements

  1. Have R as a primary focus
  2. Adhere to the Code of Conduct
  3. Agree to participate in the RUGS meetup.com Pro program
  4. Acknowledge the R Consortium as a sponsor and display the R Consortium logo on the group’s website
  5. Agree to write at least two blog posts per year
  6. Comply with the financing forms
